Ditra Flame, the legendary "Lady in Black" who ended her yearly pilgrimages to Rudolph Valentino's grave when others imitated her somber dress and penchant for leaving a red rose, has died 58 years after her silver-screen idol. "She was the original Lady in Black," the Rev. Marvin M. Sconce said yesterday at a memorial service at San Jacinto Cemetery for the 78- year-old Miss Flame, who was buried in her famed black outfit. She died of undetermined causes at her home in miles east of Los Angeles.

The home, where she lived alone, was cluttered with Valentino memorabilia. "I am always here because I made a promise to him," Miss Flame once said of her pilgrimages, which began as daily visits and later became annual on the anniversary of Valentino's death. She always left a single red rose. But. in 1954, Miss Flame she pronounced it Flah-may stopped visiting on the anniversary of Valentino's death.

She said she stopped because so many other women began showing up dressed as she did, in a black dress, shawl and veil. "It just got to be too much for me," she said. One of the imitators, Estrellita Del Regil, claimed to be the daughter of "Lady in Black," and like her wore black garb to the grave of the silent-film sheik. Miss Del Regil said she was carrying on her mother's tradition and had placed daisies on the the grave each Monday for 10 years. Miss Flame, also went by the name Princess 3 Orvella Wilson, never married, Sconce said.

A violinist who once played with an all-female band in Hollywood, Miss Flame had idolized Valentino since he visited her in the hospital when she was 14. "I was in the hospital and thought going to die," said in an 1977 interview. "My parents got him to come visit me. I told him I was afraid of being alone. I was scared of the cold and the dark.

"He was wonderful," she recalled. "He laughed and said, 'Don't afraid. You won't be said, 'Remember, I may die first. If I do, I don't want to be lonely, He called me which means 'little sister' in Italian. He said, 'Sorelina, if I die first, you must always come see me and bring me a red Joseph E.
