24 Portland Maine Evening Express Wednesday January 16 1980 Decision due on library use City Corporation Counsel William was ex pected to issue an opinion this afternoon in a dispute be tween the Portland Public Library and a Communist Tarty committee that wants to hold a political meeting there The Maine Hall Davis Committee which supports the presidential and vice presidential candidacies of commu nists Gus Hall and Angela Davis had reserved a confer ence room for a 7:30 pm meeting Thursday but Librarian Edward Chenevert claimed the arrange ments were made deceptively He said the library is not supposed to be used by political groups Chenevert referred the matter to library trustee chair man Daniel Drummond Jr who passed it on to because the library is a city owned facility The Maine Civil Liberties Union has said it will rep resent the Hall David Committee in court if the group is denied use of the library 45 WC students receive honors orty five Westbrook College students from system Maine National Bank having set a record for earnings in 1978 eclipsed that record in 1979 according to bank president Bairent Vroman Jr The net income of $295 million showed a 13 percent increase over 1978s record $26 million Vroman also reported that the market price of the bank's stock up 18 percent during the year "seems to have reflected the excellent year we have just Transit
