York bases were targeted for closing and new information showed a wide discrepancy in cost estimates for the northern Maine base An attorney for the Save Loring Committee contended the new infor mation showed the Air orce had in flated its cost estimate for upgrading Loring by more than $100 million to justify closing the base The Base Closure and Realign ment Commission on riday added 36 military installations to the Penta list of 43 potential bases to close or scale back including Plattsburghs Air orce Base and Griffiss Air orce Base in New York state Some Maine officials have argued that Plattsburgh a base for 111 fighter bombers and KC 135 tankers should be closed The commission said the new list was preliminary but added that some of its candidates for closing may get the ax in CRISTAN Sentinel Staff State Rep Paul Kelley Simp son was arrested late Thursday by Waterville police and charged with assaulting a female compan ion in her city apartment But his alleged victim Deana owler said late riday that zy Simpson only trying to her and that she will ask that the charge against him be dropped Police said' Simpson 38 hit and choked owler in her first floor apartment at the Crestwood 4 Park complex off West River1 Road across from Thomas Col lege The Casco Democrat known commonly as Kelley Simpson was arrested at 10:40 pm out side the complex according to Waterville
