ture approves a proposed education funding package according to Superintendent William Braun Action or inaction by the Edu cation Committee still keeps many questions about state funding for schools unanswered But Braun said SAD 48 could lose $1 15000 if the con sensus reached by the committee Tuesday is to fund school operating expenses from an 80 20 split beginning with school year 1996 97 That means that the state funding formula would place 80 percent weight on property valu ation and 20 percent weight on income factors in determining a school district ability to pay for its educational needs the committee comes out unanimously in favor of this when it sends this package to the full legislature my guess is the legislature will basically follow said Braun Braun said it appeared to him as though the legislature to date has addressed only the oper ating expense portion of school budgets und ing subsidy formulas for special programs and debt service have yet to be debated according to Braun Because of the difference between the funding formulas used in the past and the proposed fund ing formula nearly impossible to compare the two formulas and the money involved said Braun When this formula is broken down to a per pupil cost though SAD 48 would lose approx imately $90 per student under the terms of the proposed funding formula according to Braun With so many questions surrounding the legis approach to the educational funding problem Braun said trying to prepare for any legislation is summertime you know to come but you when or how hot going to In airfield: Board
