Evelyn T. (Warren) Taylor 1931 2023 RAYMOND Evelyn T. (Warren) Taylor, 91, of Ray- mond, passed away at The Gosnell House on April 6, 2023, after a brief illness, sur- rounded by her loving family. Evelyn was born in Windham on Nov. 8, 1931 to Edward R.

War- ren and Virginia (Walk) Warren. She Graduated Salutatorian from Gorham High School in 1950. She married Carroll C. Taylor in 1950 and they raised four sons in Wind- ham. The family spent time in the summer on Thompson Lake in Otisfield.

Evelyn worked at the Windham Town Office in the then went to work at Cole-Layer-Trum- ble. She went back to work in Windham in 1979 and was appointed the Assessor for the town in 1980. She remained the assessor until retirement in 1992. Evelyn was a Past Worthy Matron of the Evangeline Chapter 167 O.E.S. She bowled on a couples league with her husband and also enjoyed golfing, danc- ing, reading, card games and travelling.

She LOVED casinos! Upon retirement she and Carroll spent a few years traveling all around the United States and never missed an opportunity to stop at a casino. They visited all but two of the 50 states. In addition to her parents, she was prede- ceased by her husband, Carroll in 1999; and her sister, June. She is survived by her brother, Edward and wife Phyllis, sister, Maudann and stepsisters Sarah and Nancy; her sons Stephen and his wife Kathleen, David, Richard and his wife Kara, all of Windham, and Ron- ald and his wife Jeanine of Limerick; five grand- children, Dana, Travis, Shawna, Justin and Laura; six great-grandchildren, Sara, Nick, Brianna, Jor- din, Jacob and Raina; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and neph- ews. Besides her family, she will be greatly missed by her neighbors at Jordan Bay Place, who referred to her as the Mayor and her good friend, Norma Richardson.

Raymond, ME 04071 in her memory. Steven Hart 1947 2023 PORTLAND Steven Hart, 76, died on March 30, 2023 at his home of natural causes.

Steve was born in Skowhegan on March 4, 1947, the son of the late Herbert E. and Grace (Hoyt) Hart. He grew up in Skowhegan where he attended local schools and graduated from Skowhegan High School in the class of 1965. He played several sports in high school including base- ball, basketball and football. After high school he went to the University of Maine, Orono, and graduated with a degree.

Following college he worked for his father in the family Amoco station. Then he moved to Portland and worked on fishing boats such as the Teresa Marie, Mary Kelly and Caitlin for many years. Following that. he worked on the docks un- loading lobsters and supply- ing bait to the fishermen. He had many wonderful friends and coworkers.

In 2007 he sustained a traumatic brain injury in an industrial accident. He was unable to work following the accident. Steve enjoyed watching sports on TV such as hockey, baseball and foot- ball. He was an avid Bruins, Boston Red Sox and Patriots fan. Steve is survived by his brother, Dennis and his wife Jayne from Skowhegan, his sister, Janet Lan- caster and her husband Keith from Gray.

He is also survived by his three neph- ews, Michael Bisson from Hampden, Alex Hart from Westbrook, and Ross Hart from Scarborough. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. in Canaan at Fairview Cemetery on May 21 with a reception to follow at the Elks Club, 21 Silver Skowhegan, ME 0497. Steve was a very kind and generous person. Douglas Brian Cressey 1961 2023 PORTLAND Douglas Brian Cressey passed away in his sleep in the early morning hours of April 8, 2023. Born Feb. 22, 1961, in Chula Vis- ta, the son of Wesley O. and BettyAnn (Lar- rabee) Cressey.

Doug came to Maine in 1968 after his retirement from the U.S. Navy and was educated in Portland schools. He discovered the love of water at a very young age. At the age of three, he had his first swimming lesson and took to the water like a fish. The water called to Doug from then on.

As a teenager, Doug was introduced to lob- stering and found his true calling spending 47 years as a stern man for many local captains. Doug was a fixture on the Portland waterfront and caught the attention of local artists. His image has been captured by artists Lisa White and Alan Claude. Ms. work can be found on the Portland Wa- terfront where a portion is donated to the Maine Association and Maine Coast Fishermen Association.

Mr. work titled at the featuring Doug working on the boat Me was the cover of the Maine Travel Planner and Adventure Guide for the Bicenten- nial edition. Doug is sur- vived by his son, Wesley Earl Cressey; mother, BettyAnn; sisters Susan Cressey, Cheryl (Frank) Di- Donato, Kimberly (Scott) Redlon, half-sister, Carol (Terry) DePaul; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Wesley and half-sister, Mary Louise. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 22 at 10:30 a.m.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Maine Association 2 Storer Suite 203 Kennebunk, ME 04043 Martha (Hicks) Ousback 1944 2023 GORHAM Martha (Hicks) Ousback, 79, passed away peacefully Monday evening, April 3, 2023 at Maine Medical Center succumb- ing to COPD after a 10-plus year journey. Martha was born on Feb.

12, 1944 to Melvin and Ruth (Alexander) Hicks in Boston, Mass. Martha and fam- ily enjoyed early days in Laconia, N.H. before moving to Bristol, N.H. in 1955. Martha attended and graduated in 1962 from Bris- tol Memorial High School.

While in school she was a basketball cheerleader, car- nival queen contestant and also found her life-long love of dancing at the Country Belle. Martha was known in those days as a much disciplined individual never moving forward with her week until all her ironing was complete on Sunday. Following high school she graduated from Colby Jun- ior College in New London, N.H. She married her loving husband of 52 years, Paul, initially living in Portland, and ultimately settled in Cumberland to raise their family. Paul and Martha enjoyed many years in Cum- berland sharing good times with the early 1970s settlers of the community (sports, snowmobiling, boating, Val Halla etc.) Following their early Maine years was a journey back to Bristol where Mar- tha enjoyed her working days at Dead River Compa- ny.

A final stop in Portland in the 2000s, then off to the sunshine state and retire- ment years settling in St. Augustine, Fla. During her lifetime Mar- tha worked for the Town of Cumberland schools, the local dentist as a dental assistant, CSR at Dead River Company (Bristol), a book- keeping effort on occasion and last- ly, as a Long Term Disability special- ist at Aetna. Work for Martha was always fulfilling and done with strength and com- mitment similar to her early days at the ironing board. She was a loyal friend to many, feisty on occasion, and will be missed by all.

Her husband, Paul, prede- ceased her Nov. 9, 2017, in Green Cove Springs, Fla. Martha is survived by her two sons, Erik (Kim) Gorham, Christian (Amber) Steamboat Springs, three sisters, Janet Kinch (Howard) of Mexico Beach, Dorothea Auchterlonie (Dennis) Ashland, N.H. and Ocklawaha, Pricilla Signorelli (Tony) Ormand Beach, and one broth- er, Charles Hicks (Cindy) of Bay Village, Ohio; two grandchildren, Alexander James of Gorham and Greyson Grant of Steamboat Springs, Colo. A final note of thanks to the tremendous staff at the Inn at Village Square, Gorham, who aided Martha in so many ways on the often difficult journey of aging.

Ellen Jean Mazuzan 1956 2023 CUMBERLAND FORE- SIDE Ellen Jean Mazuzan, beloved wife, mother, sister, a friend, and ed- ucator, died on April 2, 2023 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House after a recent cancer diagnosis. She spent her final days surrounded by friends and family with a fair measure of humor and an incredible amount of grace. She was 67 years old. Born Ellen McMahon on Feb.

18, 1956, Ellen spent her formative years in Burl- ington, Vt. The youngest of three sisters, she honed her sharp tongue and Yankee pragmatism in the mold of her parents, Jane and George McMahon (both Mainers). During her time at Burlington High School (class of 1974) she was an active member of her com- munity. It was during those years that she began spend- ing time with her eventual husband, Christopher Ma- zuzan. Ellen and Chris were soon inseparable, going on to become partners, spouses, co-conspirators, and best friends remaining so for the duration.

Ellen went on to study Education at the University of Vermont (1978) and upon graduation embarked on a lifelong career in educa- tion and literacy. Over the years, she taught pre-school, served as a librar- ian, worked for communi- ty-based education non-prof- its, and provided tutoring services and early childhood literacy intervention. A lifelong reader with a bot- tomless appetite for books, she was a devoted advocate for literacy specifically for those who were underserved or marginalized. As teacher and champion, she made a lasting impact on countless families over the years. Ellen was a dedicated mother of two sons never missing a swim meet, theat- er performance, or band concert.

This dedication fanned out to the larger (and growing) extended family on both the McMahon and Mazuzan sides where she was held dear as a loving daughter, sister, aunt, mother-in- law, and grand- mother. There are countless others who would name Ellen among their too, owing to her fierce loyalty and commitment to friends. Ellen loved host- ing big gatherings handing out assignments for potluck, baking pies, placing name cards, and directing Chris in the placement of seasonal decorations. She cherished summer days by their pool and labored to create an oasis for all to enjoy. She extended standing open in- vitations to leisure seekers far and wide: is She loved spending time out- doors, gardening, walking in the woods or on the beach, and sailing on Casco Bay with Chris on their sailboat.

Ellen is survived by her husband Chris Mazuzan; sons Kirk and Scott Mazu- zan, daughters-in-law (and in heart) Erika Mazuzan and Eliza Matheson; sisters Mary Gulezian and Anne Coleman; grandchildren Lukas, Liv, and Charlie, and countless cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends, and loved ones. She will be profoundly missed by the huge community she touched during her lifetime. In light of her steadfast commitment to literacy, a scholarship is being estab- lished in name to make tutoring available for Maine students in need. Edward G. Anderson 1957 2023 PORTLAND Edward G. Anderson, 71, died Wednes- day April 5, 2023, at Maine Medical Center. He was born June 11, 1957, a son of Roy and Veronica (Chamberlin) Anderson. Edward grew up in Port- land and was a graduate of Deering High School.

He is survived by his brother; and several cousins. Visiting hours will be held Monday April 24, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Westbrook Chapel of Dolby, Blais Segee, 35 Church West- brook. Following visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. at St.

DolbyBlaisSegee.com Dennis Joseph Bowden 1944 2023 PORTLAND Dennis Joseph Bowden, 78, died on April 12, 2023. Dennis was born on July 24, 1944 to the late William and Mary (McGregor) Bowden in Port- land.

During his life, Dennis worked as a truck driver. He was dedicated to work to ensure that he provided a safe and stable life for his children. He was a devout catholic. Growing up, he served as an alter-boy at St. Catholic Church and in his older years, was a parishioner at St.

Catholic Church. Dennis loved going to the casino, was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Paul Mallia Post (Bunker), always had a good time be- tween long work hours, and enjoyed watching the Patri- ots and the Red Sox. Above all else, he loved his family. The family would like to extend a thank you to all of siblings for all of the great care that they gave to him over the years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; sister, Gail Winslow; and parents.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Denise (Paul) Farrell, Dennis (retired USMC) Bowden, Donna (Scott) Gagnon, Kelly Bowden, Felicia (James, retired USMC) Beaul- ieu; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sib- lings, Marlene (Robert) Allen, Clytie Bello, William Bowden, Eugene (Betsy) Bowden, Vicki (Robert) Gowen; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other lov- ing family and friends. Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 21741 Timothy William Curran 1955 2023 PORTLAND Tim Curran, 68, of Portland, passed away in his home on April 12, 2023, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. He fought relentless- ly, not allowing his diagnosis or treatments stop him from doing what he loved and spending time with his family. Tim was born in Portland on March 8, 1955, to William and Joan Curran. He grew up with his sisters and brother in Westbrook and Portland, making friends everywhere he went. His childhood was filled with special memories of time spent with his grandmother Zilphy Martin.

He attended Deering High School and SMVTI, where he was a co-captain of both basketball teams. It was at SMVTI that he began to master the craft of welding. In 1979 he met the love of his life, Melinda, and they were married less than a year later, on May 31, 1980. They began a family giving birth to three boys, Patrick, Shaun, and Kalen. He start- ed his career with Boiler- makers Local 29 in 1982.

love for his boys was relentless, never allowing long grueling days on the job to stop him from attending sports games, practices, or even tryouts. Summers were spent at the beach and camp- ing up and down the Maine coast. If he working, he was spending time with his family, weightlifting, woodworking, gardening, cooking, or teaching himself one of the many hobbies he specialized in throughout his life. He was committed to ongoing learning through self-teaching, fiercely deter- mined to try to understand new concepts and master new skills throughout his life. After he retired in 2010, he began making high-qual- ity pens and bar tools in his workshop.

He was beyond proud when a local store began selling his pens in downtown Portland. He was a musician that was self-taught at guitar, keyboard, and harmonica. His love for blues music inspired him and Melinda to create enjoy- able memories with friends and family, attending blues festivals from Tampa, Fla. to Rockland. Tim was a simple man with a passion for tradition.

His strength, humor, and unique intellect made lasting impressions on everyone he conversed with. He will be missed by everyone fortunate enough to have called him a friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Melinda; sons Patrick and his wife Kendra, Shaun and his wife Marisa, and Kalen; grandchildren Calvin, Kasen, Colton, and Kamdyn; mother, Joan; sis- ters Michaelene, Kathy, and Maureen, brother, Tiger; and many adoring nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, William; grandmoth- er, Zilphy; niece, Kelly and nephew, Will. The family will forever hold deep gratitude to his oncologist, Dr.

Jessica Bien, at Maine Health and his hos- pice nurse, Catilin, for their unwavering support and guidance throughout the final stages of his journey.
